The Color Kittens Reimagined

Back in 1949, the writer of Goodnight Moon wrote a Little Golden Book called The Color Kittens about two kittens--for some reason dressed in train engineer outfits--that are trying to mix colors together to make Green.

More recently, in 2012, the writer of this blog had a class taught by the incomparable Gilbert Banducci where one of our assignments was to turn this classic tale (or "tail" haha...) (...) into a television series.  We had to pick the network, figure out the demographics, restyle the characters, select the voice talent, and pitch our new angle to the class.  I decided to play against personal "type" and skew the show to an audience older than the books target demographic, creating a show for the FX Network to air after Archer or Louie.  The show was to star the voices of Matthew Perry and Melissa McCarthy as Brush and Hush, looking something like this:

I think this show will definitely gain some traction with that coveted artistic cat demographic.  Your thoughts?

I Drew a Horse & Graduated from AAU

I was five.  And I drew this horse, I assume for my Auntie Pat.  I don't know why I did.  I don't know why I thought this is what a horse looks like.  But I drew a horse.  I was five.

Now, I'm twenty-nine. I just got awarded a Master's of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Art University.  So I drew another horse.  I'm twenty-nine.

A lot has changed during the time between these two drawings.  But one thing has not: continued support from those around me.

So I'd like to take this opportunity to not only thank my parents and family, but also every teacher, every classmate, every friend, every neighbor, every coworker, and every unknown internet passerby that has supported my artwork for all these years.

The New LoweQuality.com!

With the artwork for my thesis finished, the past few weeks have been spent putting together all the deliverables for my Final Review, including an "Art of..." book of my thesis artwork and my actual portfolio.  For those who are curious, my book ("The Thesis Art of Casey Lowe.") can be viewed here.  In fact, you can even order yourself a copy at publication cost, in both soft and hard cover.  Pretty neat.

RETAILiation - Final Storyboards

A little over a year ago, I began work on my thesis at the Academy of Art University.  As a student focusing on Storyboarding, my thesis had to consist of three different storyboarded sequences.

I developed an epic opus about animals in a Garden of Eden-type setting where the food chain first begins that was watered down to become the award-winning Fuzzy, Fury Rescue Friends.

I played around with the idea of throwing Mr. Bean into the world of James Bond and created The Briefcase Briefing.

But last summer, I began working on my television series concept revolving around three college-aged characters stuck in a retail job that don't know where to go next with their life.  While I have previously posted the character designs and initial storyboards I created back then, this summer things have come full circle, and I am pleased to announce that RETAILiation is finally finished, thus ending my thesis work!  :^)

Of course, there are still several things to do before my final review, but the hard part is now finished.  I look forward to closing this chapter of my life and beginning the next one.  Methinks it just may be the best yet!  I hope you'll stay tuned...

Disney Store's Brave Merchandising...

Let me start by stating that--as of this posting--I work for the Disney Store and have already seen Brave three times.  So what I do is out of love and respect for the brand.  But sometimes...

Well, remember that part in the movie when Merida saved the day by whipping out her magic wand?  No??  Well, since you've forgotten, here are the storyboards for that sequence:

See?  What's that?  Hmm, still don't remember the movie ending that way?  Me neither, come to think of it.  But based on these products:

--that simply MUST be the way it all went down.  Why else would they make a wand, tiara, etc. for Merida??
